When the machair looks like a sea of yellow – it is when all the meadow buttercups are in flower. There can be hundreds of flowers in a just a small field.

They look so lovely that it is surprising to know that the meadow buttercup is actually poisonous!

You can tell if someone likes butter by picking a flower and holding it up to their chin. If there is a yellow glow, then they definitely like butter. (But the catch is that there is almost always a yellow glow, and nearly everyone likes butter!)
